Swedish electro-wunderkind Ishivu has been pretty busy of late. At the tender age of seventeen, he’s already had a taste of fame, thanks to the circulation of his MP3s within the blogosphere and now that he’s graduated high school, he’s ready to release his first EP.
Enki, the first single from ‘EP 1′, is undoubtedly catchy, with its punchy drum beat overlayed by a sweeping 8-bit synth straight out of Sonic the Hedgehog. Maybe that’s why the video tells the story of a girl who literally loses control over herself as her mind is mysteriously filled with the sounds of Enki. She is compelled to travel the invisible electro-trail until finally, much to her boyfriend’s chagrin, she finds herself face to face with Ishivu.
LA-based production company American Painkillers specialize in creating narrative videos for European electro-producers and American indie acts, and with good reason. Director Henry Kaplan has succeeded in painting the story of someone who knows what they want and will go after it by any means necessary, even if that means summoning someone telepathically with a key-tar. All of this is communicated to the audience without anyone having to speak one word. The comical twist of an aural-posession keeps the storyline as lighthearted as the song itself, tying everything nicely together in one carefree, danceable package.
