Ladyhawke’s Killer Eyes

Phillipa Brown sees dead people. Or rather, she sees people who are in the process of being killed, which is much much worse. Lucky for Phillipa her stage alter ego is Ladyhawke and Ladyhawke knows that it’s all in the name of musical odes to famous films.

This new clip is for her single Black White & Blue, and is directed by fellow New Zealander Tabitha Denholm. Denholm is solidly in the females-rocking-electro-pop camp having previously worked with Florence Welch (with and without her Machine) and Alice Gold.

Black White & Blue is a tribute to the 1978 Faye Dunaway starrer Eyes of Laura Mars, in which a fashion photographer known for the stylized violence in her shoots begins to see in real-time the cold-blooded murders of her friends. The set and feel of the 1970s is recreated to perfection, and Ladyhawke seems right at home with her ABBA-esque brand of music. You won’t get the violence of the original film, but those creepy glowing eyes are more than enough of a suggestion.

Ladyhawke’s new album Anxiety is going to be released in mid-March on Modular Records and she’s touring across the UK in April and May in support of it.
