New York-based indie band Hospitality play with a crazy alt universe in their latest (and first) clip, Friends of Friends, where a couple can’t make the NY/LA long distance relationship work and each spend a day out in their own cities. But the charms of New York have been rubbed dry in downtown LA; the atmosphere of Los Angeles is oddly out of place in a glamorous Manhattan.
It’s a clever clip from acclaimed director Scott Jacobson (The Daily Show, Bob’s Burgers) that’s got everything going for it—always-welcome performances from the impeccable Alia Shawkat and Gabe Delahaye, a great-looking supporting cast, hilarious production values and a tongue in cheek sense of humour. But above all, Friends of Friends is definitely the most infectious song we’ve heard all year (granted, it’s not a tough call yet, but still). Hospitality have nailed that dizzyingly uplifting sound that—guiltily—makes you want to listen on repeat, chilling with your friends (and friends of friends) all day.
Hospitality’s anticipated debut LP is due out next week on Merge Records.
