The solemn electronica of Greek duo Keep Shelly In Athens is here to warn you against picnicking with handsome men in excellent sweaters. Their song Running Out Of You from the EP ‘In Love With Dusk’ has been transformed into a short film called M I N E by director Thanasis Tsimpinis, and it is certainly not a relaxing afternoon in the park.
Things become sinister quickly, with images of a manicured lawn and hedges contrasted with brief flashes of food. It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t conjure up what Tyler Durden did with films and interspersion. The film otherwise uses a lot of slow motion pans and some clever special effects involving a pink rose in order to show there is something not quite right with this scene.
A proper tea set is shown, along with the not-so-customary picnic fare of poisoned milk and a dead body. The slow, unearthly music from KSIA is reflected well in this film that seems like a cross between The Great Gatsby and Alice In Wonderland. Murderous and decadent upper classes beware; you can’t blame the gingerbread man for this one.
Keep Shelly In Athens is touring across America in April, and will also be playing Coachella 2012. Check out the dates here.
