Stephen Malkmus Teaches Us Tigers

The video for Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus (and his other band) the Jicks‘ new single Tigers is a thorough, encyclopedic and hilarious history of tiger species…that doesn’t actually feature any. We learn through HouseHold‘s video that tigers are excellent at martial arts, eating fried chicken, playing football and befriending smaller cats.

The song and its thumping beat come alive against the mockumentary style video produced by HouseHold—a design collective in London, spearheaded by George Wu and Sarah Gottlieb that is known for its offbeat projects including Human Error, an art installation which humanized the world of technology.

The band’s debut album ‘Stephen Malkmus’ was released in 2001 after the disbanding of Pavement. Tigers appears on their fifth studio album, ‘Mirror Traffic‘, which was produced by Beck and dropped on August 22nd.
