London duo Summer Camp (not to be confused with these guys) hit the blogosphere early last year hidden behind their songs, causing rumors to circulate concerning the identities of the band. Surprised by the warm reception that met their indie-pop tracks, Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey revealed themselves, confessing they weren’t expecting anything to come out of their project. This past summer came the announcement of their debut album, ‘Welcome to Condale’, and earlier this month the nostalgia-soaked video for first single Better Off Without You premiered.
Better Off Without You is a manic pixie dream girl in song form—it’s quirky, cute, catchy and playful, but you can’t have it. It doesn’t want you! Sankey’s vocals don’t waver a bit as she looks right into the camera and sweetly demands that you stop calling her. Backed by sugary keyboards and handclaps, she adds insult to injury: her friends never liked you, either. The Kissinger Twins-directed video is charmingly retro, juxtaposing 70s-era stock footage with filtered clips of the band. With his oversized frames and her floral frock, the indie sweethearts of Summer Camp fit right in amongst the faces from yesteryear.
The Kissinger Twins are also a London duo, who specialize in multimedia projects including art, video and photography. Their work has been featured in prominent European festivals, including the Geneva International Film Festival.
