Talent sure does run in the family. Spencer Tweedy, the 16 year-old son of Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy who once had a crowd of adoring Neil Young fans sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him at Madison Square Garden is the latest director to tackle the Illinois-based band’s generation-defining brand of folk-rock, adding none other than teen fashion icon and blogger-extraordinaire Tavi Gevinson as star.
Released in September last year, ‘The Whole Love’ is Wilco’s eighth studio album and the young Tweedy’s take on the track Whole Love is an innocent escapade into the lives of 15 year-old Tavi, his younger brother Sammy, best friend Joey and himself, and is a little reminiscent of Spike Jonze‘s quirky directorial style. Shot home video-style, the grainy footage is slightly shaky and shows the Tweedy homestead where the boys wrestle and dress up as cowboys, while Gevinson is revealed at around 2:30 in a slow motion, Sofia Coppola, Lux Lisbon-esque moment.
There must be something in the water in Chicago because these wunderkinds are making us feel old and unaccomplished!
