The Monkeys As Outlaws

The Californian desert, cheap motels and nunchucks aren’t what we always associated with British indie rock band The Arctic Monkeys, but we can’t help but notice a bit of a theme in their latest series of linked music videos for the 2011 album ‘Suck It and See’.

Drummer Matt Helders recurs in the role of ‘American bandit’—orange jumpsuit and all—in the new clip for Black Treacle.  In a kind of ongoing film clip mini-series, Helders and his feisty brunette lover wrestle and caress in cheap motel swimming pools and trailer parks at dusk.  And in this new episode, the knife-bearing outlaw is fresh out of prison searching for his girl in a wedding dress in the Californian desert.

The three videos in the series have been directed by Focus Creeps, the directional duo of Aaron Brown and Ben Chappell.  Having previously made videos for the likes of Lia Ices and Wavves, that we have previously featured on Portable.

The dramatic narrative, classic Monkeys tune and an appearance by Alex Turner make this clip very fun to watch.  We’re still not sure what the dead lion represents though.
