With their fourth studio album “Angles” due in mere weeks, The Strokes are certainly playing their promotional cards just right. Last month they made first single Under The Cover of Darkness available for free download, and just today they’ve released a Warren Fu-directed clip for the catchy track.

It’s visually theatrical in a way not dissimilar from the tuxedos-and-guitars combination favoured by the emo pop-punk bands of yesteryear such as Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco and 30 Seconds To Mars, but don’t be mistaken, because this video is also very typical Strokes. As well as a narrative reflective of Julian’s return to the band after his solo ventures, the clip also has a nice slice of 10 year old nostalgia for those paying enough attention – watch for the brief homage to a certain moment from their 2001 hit Last Nite. We’ll give you a clue: it’s at 2:06!
