The Troll Slayer Takes A Walk

It appears that defeating the troll master might not be as easy as Three Billy Goats Gruff would have us believe. The Troll Slayer, a video clip created by French director brothers Jean and Nicolas Jullien is tackling the concept and seems to have concluded that a hero doesn’t always succeed, not when it comes to the almighty Troll Master.

Created for Nicolas’ electronic musician alter-ego Niwouinwouin, the children’s comic book story-meets-moving image-based poster art chronicles the adventure of the enthusiastic troll slayer (also called Niwouinwouin) who must travel to the land of the Dalestone and defeat the Troll Master if he wishes to save an imprisoned, soon-to-be-gobbled-up girl.

On a digital reality level, the video clip highlights the potential for moving poster pictures in the future—a concept that is super exciting to consider for our own office walls. This video is, much to the dismay of a supportive viewer, firmly focused on the story’s hero becoming a loser. Not that we have a problem with losers or anything it’s just that, whilst baby trolls might not want a troll slayer to survive, when you fancy your troll slayer hero alive and kicking—they’re better that way, don’t you think?—there’s going to be a few tears and, potentially, a decapitated damsel in distress.

Perhaps The Troll Slayer could have borrowed the magic words proclaimed by the biggest billy goat gruff, who poked out the troll’s eyes as he spoke this rather menacing selection of sentences: Well, come along! I’ve got two spears, And I’ll poke your eyeballs out at your ears; I’ve got besides two curling-stones, And I’ll crush you to bits, body and bones.
