Washed Out’s Amor Fati

The clip for chillwave darlingsĀ Washed Out‘s latest release Amor Fati plays out like a lo-fi celebration of youth and freedom. Backpacking through (what we guess is) the English countryside, we follow a lone traveller on the most chilled-out vacation ever. Bro-ing out with unidentified pals, casually strolling through lush green grass, chasing sheep while shirtless and bathing with a naked lady; the clip exudes playful innocence and un-chaperoned freedom. It’s also a great representation of the aesthetic preferences of frontman Ernest Greene, who photographed an intimate moment with his wife for the cover of their latest record.

‘Amor fati’ is a Latin phrase which loosely translates into “love of fate”, and that’s exactly what director Yoonha Park has encapsulated and celebrated with this video. The carefree images coupled with the pleasing beats and Greene’s signature vocals act as almost a direct invitation to throw inhibitions to the wind and simply live.

‘Within and Without’ is out through Sub Pop records now.
