You haven’t heard of Jonquil? You should really hear about Jonquil. They’re a neat four piece hailing from Oxford, sounding a bit like Dog is Dead or Two Door Cinema Club, (but with more impressive vocals) and their latest video clip is all sorts of rad. They’ve got a few releases under their belt, big things to come and—undoubtedly—some serious widespread fame in sight. Harness that hipster cred you’ve been hankering for and latch on to Jonquil before everybody else does so you can be that guy. You know, that musical snob guy. He’s a riot.
Directed by Franklyn Banks, the clip for It’s My Part is everything you could ask for in a video, really: turnable pizza, pink backdrops, band members disguised by animal heads, strong male vocals creepily being sung out of some babe’s mouth. It’s unsettling, very dizzy and fabulously bizarre as all video clips should rightly be; moreover the track is downright impressive and catchy. It’s My Part is the kind of song that’s partly serious but sort of uplifting; amidst the darker space here is an occasionally shrill percussion undertone that will make you want to dance like a spinning pizza, while riding a mechanical bull with an elephant mask on your head. Or something like that, anyway.
Jonquil’s album, ‘Point of Go’, is due out March 5 on Blessing Force.
