Nothing could inspire us to sit through an opera more than if it were created by Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman and generally magnificent women, Karen O, who has dubbed her new work Stop The Virgens a “psycho-opera”.
Created in collaboration with production designer K.K. Barret (who also acted as production designer behind such beauties as Where the Wild Things Are and Lost in Translation), the stage production—originally envisioned by Karen as an album—has been described by the lady herself as “an assault on the tragic joys of youth, fever dreams drenched in visual seduction, a cathartic spell spun through a cycle of nine songs”.
If Karen O’s inherent experimentation and creativity is anything to go by, we’re guessing this will be one of those events that will, as musical director Nick Zinner so eloquently puts it, “blow your mind”.
Stop The Virgens runs through to October 22nd at St Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY, and tickets can be purchased through their website.
