CTRL+ALT Art With Mac OSX

We all spend so much time staring at a computer screen, procrastinating about writing that email, doing that essay, or actually doing anything productive.  But what if you did something more creative than using your Mac to stalk your friends’ brothers’ girlfriends’  photos from her holiday last month?  Designer and artist Emilio Gomariz did just that, using OSX to create some clever Apple-function art.

Always pushing the conventions of media, London-based Gomariz is trained in industrial design and experiments with digital media.  He is also the creator of the much-talked-about contemporary art and design Triangulation Blog.  All Mac users will recognise the ‘genie’ effect when a window is minimised—basically looking like a genie going into a bottle.  But, what you may not know is that if you press that little yellow minimise button whilst holding down the SHIFT key the genie effect is played out in slow motion.  Don’t really know where that comes in handy apart from this particular exercise, but it gives an artistic grace in his spectrum cube created with a rainbow of coloured panels.

Try doing that on a PC.
