Who knew strategically placed triangles, subtle pink backgrounds, and white trickling lines could create such a stir? London-based multidisciplinary artist and graphic designer Luciano Foglia certainly didn’t when he created Geometric Porn, a brilliant minimalist porn app for the iPhone. Foglia received a big, fat rejection letter from Apple, Inc. stating that his idea for the app was too crude to accept:

Reasons for Rejection:
16.1: Apps that present excessively objectionable or crude content will be rejected. We found that many audiences would find your app concept objectionable, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

Foglia’s argument for this basically parallels the idea that crudeness is in the eye of the beholder—the art is abstract, minimally figurative at best. The shapes are what they resemble, but it’s nothing like photography, where guessing would be out of the question. The visuals in Geometric Porn could even be described as cute, certainly not hard-core by any means. Consider it porn for the straight-laced, techie crowd or a humorous, conversation-stimulator (wrong choice of words?) app for the rest of us.
