The Not So Private Videos of Steve Jobs

The passing of Steve Jobs this week has made all of us pause and reflect—even if for a moment—on the impact he had on our collective approach to creativity, innovation, technology and design. Portable is one such company that was inspired by one of Steve Job’s innovations. The introduction of the video iPod in 2005 was the moment that we first imagined the possibility of curating and delivering video outside the boundaries of the television broadcasting model.

That same year, the recent graduates of Stanford University must have felt a similar sense of inspiration when Steve Jobs addressed them before they headed out into the workforce. Fortunately the address was recorded on video—like many other moments in Steve Jobs’ career over the past thirty years—and has been dorment, until now. The announcement of Jobs’ death has seen the video spike in traffic, gaining over 18 million views and 3.8 million Facebook shares in less than 48 hours, according to Buzzfeed.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forwards—you can only connect the dots going backwards,” said Jobs back then. As a tribute, we’ve decided to connect the dots going backwards on the man’s career by putting together a list of the videos that defined him as one of the most innovative thinkers of the past decade.
